&lt;p&gt;At this clinic, there will be door prizes given out.  Come and join us for the education as well as fun for all.  Lunch will be provided with a opportunity for open discussion. &lt;/p&gt;</description><link>http://blog.flanaganstables.com/post/4231406538</link><guid>http://blog.flanaganstables.com/post/4231406538</guid><pubDate>Thu, 31 Mar 2011 06:56:33 -0400</pubDate></item><item><title>Training Tip: "Plan For Success"</title><description>&lt;p&gt;      The last couple weeks have brought us some warmer temperatures and with the tease of spring thaw many of us are getting back in the saddle to prepare for show season.  While it feels fantastic to get into the swing of serious riding again, we must remember to take the necessary time to recondition our horse.  It is so tempting to want to pick right back up where we left off at the end of last fall but, if we fail to properly build our horse&amp;#8217;s strength, suppleness, and endurance we can end up making little or no progress.  Even worse we risk injury to our equine partner.  A good rule of thumb is to take at least the same amount of time that your horse has been off from regular work to rebuild his fitness.  For example, if you haven&amp;#8217;t ridden consistently in four weeks then it should take four weeks or more to get back to the same level you were working at before the time off.  Take into consideration your horse&amp;#8217;s age.  An older horse may take more time to come back from time off than a younger horse.  Keep your workouts interesting.  Do some cross training, climb hills to build strength and do gymnastic work to &amp;#8220;get out of the box&amp;#8221;.  Remember, failure to plan is a plan to fail.  Set yourself up for success by making a plan that gives you and your horse adequate time to recondition and you will increase your potential for advancement and improvement.  Most important, keep it fun and enjoy your time with your horse!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;  On March 20th, Virginia Tech is holding Educational Sunday.  I will be part of a Round Table Discussion on the new tests.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;  March 26th is the date chosen for the Clinic on &amp;#8220;Gymnastics for Horses&amp;#8221;.  It will be a fun day for all attending.  Horses and riders will enjoy working on exercises to improve the gaits and suppleness.  Entry forms and information about the costs will be available on the website following the February 19th session. &lt;/p&gt;</description><link>http://blog.flanaganstables.com/post/3215117834</link><guid>http://blog.flanaganstables.com/post/3215117834</guid><pubDate>Thu, 10 Feb 2011 06:53:37 -0500</pubDate></item><item><title>Test Riding Clinic - February 5, 2011</title><description>&lt;p&gt;The weather held off and the sun even came out in the afternoon.  All the horse and riders did well.  We are working on the New 2011 USDF dressage tests.  Auditors received handouts of the tests which were being ridden so they could follow along.  It is fun to see what tests works best for each  individual horse.    Unfortunately, the weather in some areas was ice which kept some auditors who were coming from attending.  On February 19, will be the last of this series and we are planning for March, gymnastics for the horse.  The date will be posted soon.
